I also mentioned in the post, how, although I did not purchase Frank Kern’s $2,000 course on how to make millions of dollars in 24 hours or less selling products online, I have purchased a previous $2,000 course of his on how to make money online creating information products like e-books, and how I would have no hesitation in buying any of Frank’s products, as he is the real deal and his stuff works.

In my several years of being an online business owner, something I have found to be absolutely necessary for ensuring long-term success, especially on the Internet where there is so much information and so many things can change on a daily – even hourly basis, is the importance of having Mentors, Advisers and a Network, or Community, of like-minded people that you can ask questions to, bounce ideas off, and get information to help you keep your finger on the pulse of what’s currently happening, what’s new and what’s working, what’s old and on the way out, etc …

Regarding Mentors, I have found that one of the best and most cost-effective ways of gaining access to multiple great business mentors, is through the use of business audio books. The one I most recommend that any business owner start with, is Michael E. Gerber’s “The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work And What To Do About It!“. This is a classic best-selling business book that explains the formula to creating business systems that allow you to work ON your business, instead of working IN it. I have both the hard copy version, and the audio book version, as this allows me to listen while I am driving, going for a walk, or doing something else that keeps me on the move.

For Advisers, the best thing I have found, is that whenever you come across the web site of someone you feel has something important to teach you, or someone you can learn more from, then just subscribe to their newsletter or update list. I am subscribed to around 20 mailing lists from some of the best internet marketing and business minds in the world today. Every couple of years, I will unsubscribe from the lists of people whose information I no longer feel to be necessary for what I am doing and where I am going, and join the lists of new advisers whose field of expertise is more in line with what I am currently working towards. Frank Kern is one example of “advisers” whose list I am on. Another benefit of being on such lists, is that I usually get to hear about new products and events before most everybody else does, and this also allows me to get the advantages, special pricing, early bonuses, special offers, etc… if I decided to buy their new product or subscribe to their new service.

And this brings me to the third important factor to succeeding online … having a Network you can tap into.

I have been part of one exclusive online community since it launched in 2005, and it is by far, the best value-for-money membership I have even invested my money in. Once you have surrounded yourself with great business mentors, great business advisors and have become part of a great business network or online business community, you will have the advantage of synergy, leverage and timely information on your side, and you should begin to experience great results with your online business.

Picture this …

You go to a brand-new website that is completely blank, except for one video screen, with an arrow next to it pointing to a “buy” button.

The video starts playing, and all you see, is a long-haired, laid-back surfer dude from California asking you to buy a $2,000 course on how to make millions of dollars in 24 hours or less, selling products online.

Less than 24 hours after this brand new site went live, our surfer dude from California was “sold-out” of product and had made well over 4 million dollars in sales online … just like the course he was offering said could be done.

Just let this sink in for a moment. And while you’re thinking about this, here’s a screenshot of the web site I’m talking about, just so you can see that I’m not making this up:

Okay … how is this possible?

Was it because his website’s design was so amazingly incredible, expensive and flashy?

No … most definitely not. Take a look at it … it’s just a video screen with an arrow pointing to a “buy button” on a plain white page.

So then, was his video presentation so mesmerizingly compelling and entertaining that people were hypnotized into reaching for their wallets, pulling out their credit cards and buying his product immediately after the video presentation ended?

No, not really. Just a guy talking into a camera asking you to buy his course on how to make money online.

So … how does one pull this off?

Well, in my opinion, it was nothing to do with the web site, the web design, the video or the big “buy now” button.

It was to do with this person having designed and implemented an incredibly orchestrated and effective sales process. An expertly crafted sequence of events designed to turn people who never even knew this person existed, into foaming, rabid prospects, and then into customers, all of which happended over a certain period of time and through a series of brilliantly planned, carefully thought out and well executed steps.

Did I buy his $2,000 course?

No I didn’t. I wanted to, but it didn’t fit in with my plans and my budget at this particular point in time.

But I have bought a previous product of his for about the same amount of money, and I did use the information to build and launch my first successful online product and so I know that Frank Kern’s products are a great investment and that he is the real deal.

Now … I’m not even going to try and dissect how he pulled off this brilliant marketing event and his wildly successful (and highly profitable) outcome. That’s what his course is all about.

All I wanted to do in this post is bring to your awareness that the internet is an incredible place to build a business in, and to suggest that the best way to look at what happens online is to approach everything with an open mind and a willingness to have your current beliefs, perceptions and assumptions challenged every step of the way.

I know that mine are … just about every single day!

Well, now that’s the part that’s still a little bit fuzzy … I’ll let you know as soon as I’ve figured it out.

The above “formula” might seem funny to you, but this is kind of the way many people I meet actually tend to approach the idea of building a successful internet-based business and making money online.

They like the idea of making money online.

They also like the idea of going to sleep, then waking up the next day and finding their bank balance has automatically increased and they’re richer today than they were yesterday.

They just haven’t figured out the bits in between wanting to be successful and retiring financially free.

So … where does one start after they’ve made a decision that they would like to be succesful online?

How about beginning at the end?

Let me give you an example …

Let’s say that you decide to build a business online, like a social networking site, for example (By the way, I recommend you download my FREE report on “How To Profit With Your Own Social Networking Site” if you haven’t already and you want to learn why owning your own social networking site can be a very good and profitable business).

Let’s talk about your “exit strategy’ for a moment …

What would you like to see happen at the end of all your effort? Would you want to build up the membership to a significant size and then sell it to someone else? If so, what companies do you think would be interested in owning a ready-made database of potential new customers? How many members would you need to grow your community site to in order for it to be a significant asset of interest to someone else?

Or maybe, you are passionate about what your social networking site is focused around, and you want to keep being a part of it, and grow it so it pays you an ongoing monthly income. If so, have you thought about ways to monetize your site and if yes, how much revenue you’d like your site to generate?

Once you’ve got the end in mind for your business, you can begin planning the journey. Having a clear goal for your online business will give you the roadmap you need to follow, and this will be your “Step 2′.
